Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Chordfier for Android ("Chordfier", "we", or "the app") handles information when you recognize chords, record or import audio, sign in, synchronize a library, or subscribe to Chordfier Pro.
At a glance
- You can use the core app without creating an account. Chord recognition and practice are free.
- Chordfier Pro is an optional paid subscription sold through Google Play. It adds Cloud Sync and extras such as piano and ukulele chord diagrams.
- Google sign-in is optional and is required only for Cloud Sync.
- RevenueCat, the subscription service Chordfier uses, receives an app user identifier and purchase records so the app can tell whether Pro is active.
- Product analytics are optional and off by default.
- Chordfier does not show advertising.
- Chordfier does not sell personal information.
Information processed on your device
Microphone input, audio recordings, imported audio, enhanced playback copies, detected chords, beat and tempo analysis, tuning measurements, and other musical results are processed locally. The app stores recordings, imported audio, and its local library in private app storage. The name of a file you import can become the title of the imported item; titles are synchronized when Cloud Sync is active. Android backup is disabled for Chordfier data.
When you import a link, Chordfier connects to that link's site to fetch the audio. That site receives the request and your device's network address, as it would from a web browser. The audio is analyzed and kept on your device. The link is not stored and is not sent to Chordfier. The name of the file it leads to can be the last part of the link's address, and, as with any imported file, that name can become the item's title. If the link leads to a web page rather than to a file, the title that page gives its audio or video can become the item's title instead.
Information collected when you choose online features
If you sign in with Google, Firebase Authentication processes your Google account identifier, email address, display name, and profile-photo reference so Chordfier can show the signed-in account and keep each library isolated. Chordfier also keeps a small account record in Firebase: when the account was first and last used, the app version, and the sign-in provider.
Cloud Sync is part of Chordfier Pro. While it is active, Firebase stores portable library information associated with your account. This can include session and folder identifiers, folder names, titles, timestamps, duration, instrument, chord progressions and events, saved compositions and chord sheets, musical key, tempo, meter and beat positions, analysis status, and synchronization metadata. Cloud Sync does not include raw audio or device-local file paths.
When Cloud Sync is not active for your account, for example after a Pro subscription ends, Chordfier stops synchronizing: new changes, including deletions, stay on the device. Library information synchronized earlier remains stored with your account until you delete the account.
If you explicitly enable product analytics, Firebase Analytics receives limited events about actions such as sign-in results, synchronization outcomes, completed or failed analyses, library-item opens, opening the Chordfier Pro screen, the choice to import a local library into an account, account-deletion outcomes, and whether the recognition engine was available. It also processes an app-instance identifier, device and app information, and an approximate region derived from network information. Precise location is not collected by Chordfier. The events Chordfier sends to Firebase Analytics use closed categories and count ranges rather than raw audio, chord sequences, song titles, email addresses, names, or Firebase user IDs. Analytics can be turned off again in the app; turning it off also resets the analytics data the app holds on that device.
When you open link import, or share a link to Chordfier, the app asks Firebase Remote Config whether importing from links to web pages is available, so that Chordfier can switch that kind of import off without an app update. This happens at most once every 15 minutes, and never when the app starts or when you import a file. The request carries a Firebase installation identifier, a random identifier for this installation of the app, and information about the app and device, such as the app version, Android version, language, country setting and time zone. It does not include the link.
Firebase App Check, Google Play Integrity, and related platform services may process app, device, network, license, and integrity information or tokens to protect accounts and backend access from abuse.
Purchases and Chordfier Pro
Chordfier Pro is an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription bought through Google Play Billing. Google Play processes the payment; Chordfier does not receive your card or other payment details.
To know whether Pro is active, Chordfier uses RevenueCat. When the app starts, RevenueCat's software inside the app contacts RevenueCat with an app user identifier: a random identifier created on the device when you are not signed in, or your Firebase user identifier when you are. RevenueCat also receives the Google Play purchase and subscription records linked to that identifier, and technical information about the app and device that accompanies those requests. Chordfier does not send your email address, name, recordings, or library content to RevenueCat.
You manage or cancel a subscription in Google Play, under Payments and subscriptions. Deleting a Chordfier account does not cancel a subscription.
How information is used
- Provide sign-in, library synchronization, and account-deletion features.
- Keep one user's library separated from another user's library.
- Process purchases and confirm access to Chordfier Pro.
- Protect the app and its backend against fraud and abuse.
- Turn importing from links to web pages off or on without an app update.
- Measure product reliability and improve Chordfier through Firebase Analytics only when analytics consent is enabled.
- Comply with legal, accounting, security, and platform obligations.
Service providers and sharing
Chordfier uses Google Firebase for authentication, Cloud Sync, account deletion, app integrity, optional analytics, and turning link import on or off remotely; Google Play for distribution, billing, and platform integrity; and RevenueCat for subscription status. These providers process information on our behalf or as independent platform providers under their own terms. When you import a link, the site behind that link receives the request. We do not sell personal information or share raw recordings with these services.
Retention and deletion
Local recordings and library data remain on the device until you delete the relevant item, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app. Deleting a single session or folder removes it from your library. A deleted session's audio is deleted from the device where you delete it and, while Cloud Sync is active, from your other devices that hold audio for it, once the deletion has been synchronized to them. A record of the deleted item (such as its title and chords) stays hidden in the app's private storage, marked as deleted, until you clear the app's data, uninstall the app, or delete the account it belongs to on that device.
Deleting the signed-in account in the app removes that account's library and recordings from the device where you delete it. Other devices where you used the account keep their local copy until you clear the app's data or uninstall the app there.
Synced library data remains while the account exists and is deleted through the account-deletion flow. The synchronized record of a session or folder you deleted is kept, marked as deleted once the deletion has been synchronized, until the account is deleted. After an account is deleted, Chordfier keeps a record that its account identifier was deleted, with the time, so that nothing can be written to the deleted account again; this record holds no library content, email address, or name. Purchase records are kept by Google Play and RevenueCat. Limited security logs and backup copies may be retained by service providers for fraud prevention, legal, dispute, or platform requirements.
You can delete individual sessions and folders without deleting your account. You can also delete the complete Chordfier account from inside the app. See the account deletion instructions for the exact steps and scope.
Security
Information transmitted to supported online services is encrypted in transit. Access to synchronized library data is restricted by authenticated account ownership and backend security rules. No security measure can guarantee absolute protection, so Chordfier minimizes collection and keeps audio processing local by design.
Children
Chordfier is intended for people aged 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information.
International processing
Online providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Their contractual, technical, and legal safeguards apply to those transfers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Chordfier's features or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version. Material changes will be reflected here before the affected behavior is released.
